As the song says, it’s a small world (after all).To bring people together during #wciw we encourage anyone and everyone to use social media to just say #justsayHI. To reconnect with people who have helped you in the past or someone you have helped. This simple act will encourage more creativity and innovation globally for a better world. The more we connect with each other, the better we all become. As an innovation community, we thrive through collaboration. That comes from connecting with diverse people and simply sharing a conversation. What’s worked, what hasn’t.

Our plan is to benefit anyone and everyone through reconnecting and making the world a small place. Saying thanks to those who have helped them, and just saying ‘hi’ to those they have helped.  Reconnecting people to say hi, and thanks. Developing peer relationships. Inspiring innovation and collaboration to build collective wisdom.

Together with Mozambique, Belgium organised a side-event and panel discussion on Leveraging Innovation for Humanitarian Action at the World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21 and Week April 15 -21 Global held in New York.
🇧🇪🇲🇿

‘Are drone and digital technologies up to the task?’ The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) project seeks to enhance the ability of World Food Programme and partners to respond to emergencies. In Mozambique’s flood-prone regions, WFP aimed to find out if UAVs could be a cheap, efficient way to see lay of the land and respond to emergencies. Drone pictures function both as raw visuals and as a data source for operational analysis.

In 2016 and 2017 a dedicated pioneering team organized a conference named Reinventing Organizations in Sofia. More about it in a video.
We would like to continue the dialogue between the conferences as well. Our intention for April is to offer space for sharing, experimenting, creation, and maintenance of contacts.

We will use Art Of Hosting techniques to explore what happened after participants attended the events, what was applied, for what they need more support or information + participants will get the chance to pose a challenge for all to solve.
Our goal: to have a good time while transforming workplaces in a creative and human-oriented way.

The world in 2016 is different. It is a V.U.C.A. world – volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Change is the new constant.

  • Do we unleash the maximum potential of our teams in this environment?
  • Are we calm, happy, and satisfied with our work?
  • Do we manage change or does change manage us?

On a global scale, the answers to these questions are a sign that something in the way we work needs to change radically (data from Gallup, McKinsey & Deloitte). 45% to 71% of employees are not engaged in their work. We want to do something about it by offering a meaningful space for conversations for action.

We are raising awareness of WCID and WCIW and the need for everyone to recognize they are creative and innovative beings, and to develop their skills in those areas.

  • We want to encourage people to take the day to engage in activities that spark their creativity, such as walking a labyrinth, forest bathing, or reading about creativity and having a discussion with family, friends, and colleagues.
  • We use the week to raise awareness in business that people are inherently creative and innovative and to encourage them to support and build upon those skills in their leadership and employees.
  • We wrote a blog post referencing the WCID story and video.
  • We hope that an increased focus on creativity and innovation will support all the goals!

We are also holding a book giveaway during WCIW.

Years ago, I was proud to create and host Igniting Imagination with Nellie Jacobs, an internet interview radio show that drew listeners from around the world. The first of these interviews were edited and compiled into a book ‘Making Opportunity Knock’.

I believe we can learn so much about and for ourselves when we learn about others. This series spotlights incredibly talented, multi-faceted individuals – such as Marci Segal – with much to offer. These are ordinary “real” people-very much like you and me – who work diligently, often overcoming considerable challenges, roadblocks, and economic downturns to follow their passions and achieve their dreams.

My guests are creativity academics and specialists as well as creative business people and extraordinary individuals who freely describe their accomplishments, any “failures” or obstacles they encountered along the way, inner resources they’ve developed or relied upon, considerations of taking into account and specific details of how they obtain their successes.

I am pleased to offer the link to the 34 archived episodes for your inspiration and listening pleasure during World Creativity and Innovation Week, April 15-21 and beyond.

Each episode is numbered and themed. For true inspiration, listen to the entire series. This series of interviews with vibrant, imaginative personalities entertain and educate while inspiring listeners to ignite their imagination, mine their resources, and make opportunity knock.

Colombia

This year we were invited to join the first celebration in Panama, so, we can’t develop the usual six days celebration we normally do in Colombia every year. Nevertheless, we are promoting a free participation to generate ideas related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
Also, we are planning the 4th SemanaCI celebration for 2019, looking for new ideas, new actions, and new outcomes. Inspiration and networking will be held for everyone involved.

This year we propose to gather ideas and challenges around each Sustainable development Goal (SDG). We are going to post on social networks this questions:

  • Which of the SDG you consider need most of the attention today in your community?
  • What new idea or solution have you identified to address this goal?

This questionnaire will allow us to have a better understanding of collective Imaginarium and see where we must pay attention. Results will be broadcasted on different media (mostly owned channels).

The primary objective is to identify unmet needs in different communities in Colombia’s regions, in relation with the SDG’s. Then we will try to articulate challenges with solvers in a co-creative and cooperative way (converging of stakeholders).

The project will follow these steps:

  • Identify communities and their SDG needs
  • Set up challenges accordingly to each SDG
  • Co-creation process from different perspectives
  • Release data and publish results
  • Search for support and sponsorship through Government, ONG’s and enterprises interested in project development.

In addition, I will give ideas of how you can celebrate, in a simple way, this day in families, schools, and communities.

Under the slogan that with new useful ideas (creativity) and putting them into practice (innovating) is the way that significant changes in educational processes will be generated, which at the same time will produce community awareness that the best business and country results, will be achieved by promoting and applying creativity and innovation in all fields of human endeavor.

Our festival has an academic aspect too and one of the questions is “how we can use a festival to bring about social change?“.  We want our festival to reach out to many communities and to inspire creativity and cross-collaboration. It will be immensely beneficial for us to be connected to WCIW and help us to communicate that the creative process extends beyond the arts.

India

We, at Lyminality, are celebrating creativity and the freedom it allows from this beautiful and warm part of South Asia located in the southern part of India, Chennai.

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” Albert Einstein

And what if this teacher’s role was fluid? What if this teacher could be anyone from a little child to an adult, at home or outside? Would it not then become the collective responsibility of all of us to awaken this joy in whoever we meet? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

  1. I believe creativity opens up young minds and encourages them to become free and fearless. It frees us from the ‘Perfection bug’ that stops us from being our true selves. We have spent the last 15 days celebrating this freedom by way of learning and experimenting with some new skills for our learners.
Doodling: We have conducted our ‘Doodle Caboodle’ workshops for children and adults. The primary objective was to enable the participants to break free from the preconceived ideas about art. This workshop allowed the participants to experiment, explore, and experience the magic and thrill of creating spectacular art with freehand pen-on-paper style drawing that needed no prior art experience. Imagine the excitement!
  2. Journalling and Handlettering Workshop
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.” Steve Jobs
And Journalling is that art that gives one the courage to look at one’s story. It allows us to look at our own life story to honor and celebrate it. It offers an opportunity to design what we want from our experiences in the future. We explored this wonderful opportunity with children and adults during our workshop providing tools to creatively start their Journalling journey not only as a regular practice but as an activity to look forward to every day.
  3.  Calligraphy: Calligraphy is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush and there is this soothing and meditative quality to it. The participants carried with them a new skill and curiosity to explore newer and more creative ways to express themselves.

We finish with a bang, tomorrow, the 21st of April 2018, on the World International Creativity and Innovation Day hoping that we keep the essence of this celebration within us and awaken it in those we meet as well.

Our celebrations focused on bringing about change in the way the participants think about creativity, to know that creativity is not just about art but a way of thinking and being.

We believe trust and respect, both for oneself and others, are the foundations of a healthy society. The workshops we conduct focus on these with a firm belief that ‘change is possible’.

21st April 2018 “World Creativity & Innovation Day”
Creative connections for new worlds:
8 hours of conversations about creativity
By Fabrizio Poli, Poliassociati Italia & CREABO/CREARER

21st April 2018 “World Creativity & Innovation Day”
Creative connections for new worlds:
8 hours of conversations about creativity
By Fabrizio Poli, Poliassociati Italia & CREABO/CREARER

Why?
Because we trust in “creativity “and in the deep connection with 2 other words: “innovation” and “change”.

8 hours of interviews will be live broadcasted on Facebook: from fashion to HR management, from food & wine to youth, from architecture to music.
2 conversations for an hour, from 9.30 AM to 6.30PM of April 21, 2018.

8 hours of interviews will be live broadcasted on Facebook: from fashion to HR management, from food & wine to youth, from architecture to music.
2 conversations for an hour, from 9.30 AM to 6.30PM of April 21, 2018.

Why on Facebook?
Because a social network is a magic place to stay connected in a fast & easy way.
So forget all the bad use of a social network as “heaters” or illicit traffic of personal data. Stay with us: we’ll share some hours with experts, listening to stories, suggestions, new horizons.

We believe that contents will always win: just free your mind and everything could happen, especially if all our friends will find the right moment to connect and to attend our live video, and why not, send some questions to our speakers.
We’ll be waiting for you.

This will be the “First Edition” so we’ll hope the technology will support us in the best way. Anyway, leave us the chance to make some mistakes: we are strongly convinced that creativity needs to make mistakes and to build over new perspectives of learning.

We are planning all the stuff and we’re trying to find the best place as the location of this little experience. Stay tuned and we’ll communicate all the detail soon.

For this “First Edition” the main language of the conversations will be ITALIAN. Sorry!

On the Saturday night of our CREA conference, April 21, we will have approximately 200 people who will have been given a card at registration that shows four of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): Quality Education, Health and Well Being, Gender Equality and Climate Action.  Participants will be asked to consider which of these four SDG’s they are most interested in focusing their creativity upon to begin to solve in their respective areas.

As they enter the evening session

  • We will remind everyone that this is World Creativity and Innovation Day and show a 2-minute version of your video.
  • We will then discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and explain how we will proceed
  • Because we are partnering with Stormz, we can use 70 iPads simultaneously and have small groups (3 or 4) working together on their chosen SDG.
  • We will reframe the goal and translate it into creativity-spurring “how might we” statements.
  • The conference participants will generate ideas for how to act to address their chosen SDG in their communities
  • All the ideas of each group will be shared via their iPads.
  • From there they vote for the best ideas to come up with the top selections.
  • Next, each person (still in small groups) will identify one action they can commit to and posts this action on the wall and also share it via the iPad.
  • These actions will be presented with the person’s picture so when we bring everyone together we will have a presentation for each of the four goals including best ideas and individual commitments.

At the session closing, we will announce that we will contact them in 3 months (or so) to check on their outcomes and to record these to share with the conference group and the world.  We are thinking to do a follow up at our conference next year at the same time.

Latvia

The aim of Creativity week 2018 (radi!2018) is to continue to raise awareness and interest in different audiences for the development and interaction of creative and cultural industries with other sectors, creativity-enhancing education, innovative entrepreneurship, and intelligent management, learning the best from foreign experience and developments, highlighting Latvia’s achievements through direct citizens’ engagement.

Creative and social entrepreneurship is seen and regarded as one of the main possibilities for adapting to the change to come. We aim to move past the notion of “overnight and accidental success” and facilitate the failure culture as well. For too long has success been positioned as the ultimate goal, forgetting about the lessons learned in the process and possible failures that actually make you better in the long-term.

Hence the Creativity Week radi!2018 concept is primarily implemented through this message, expressing the idea that every citizen of Latvia is part of the process of creating the country and thus highlighting the idea of participation and by impersonating the path of the initiative messages to a single individual. As a result, the sub-themes covered by the following communication lines are linked to radi!

The main message of the radi!2018 initiative:

  • the role and contribution of creative industries, design thinking and partnerships, seeking new opportunities and solutions in the context of future challenges such as cooperation, traditional industries and their interaction, social well-being, quality of life, urban development, rebirth of degraded areas, knowledge economy, artificial intelligence, new technologies and virtual and supplemented reality;
  • development of learning approaches, the use of new methods for future generations, the increasing importance of feedback in monitoring the quality of education processes;
  • design values, thinking methods and cross-disciplinary approaches in the management of public administration processes in the era of rapid change and development, initiating projects and making decisions based on the needs of the population.

This year’s concept takes into account Latvia’s and the whole Baltic Sea region countries’ future dimension, through which Latvia’s achievements and the increase in the potential for economic growth and human capital are demonstrated. We aim to tackle the regional challenges of importance to the local people in Latvia by giving them useful tools and methods with the premise of design thinking for the development of the issue. Social and creative entrepreneurs, municipality representatives and local people (including minorities) will all be invited to take part in the event.

International Lummel Day on April 15th; We lummel too little! While the best ideas and insights arise when you are not consciously involved; while showering, sleeping or running. ‘Lummelen’ is thé way to activate your creative brain. You can do this undisturbed on International Lummel Day on 15 April. No excuses. Share your productive lummel experiences here.

Why on April 15th? The creative scientist and artist Leonardo da Vinci knew the power of the unconscious brain. “Geniuses sometimes perform more by doing less,” said Leonardo when he took a rest during the painting of the last supper in Santa Maria della Grazie. So on his birthday, we follow his advice. What is the definition of to lummel? Lummling is when you are seemingly thoughtlessly engaged in repetitive, not complicated actions (running, showering, cleaning), in which thoughts jump freely in the brain. It can support all goals, but I would like to link it to

Using & Cultivating Imagination
#creativeHE Forum April 15-21st 2018

Creative Academic is joining forces with ImagineEd to host a week-long open conversation during World Creativity and Innovation Week, to explore some of the ways imagination features in our lives and how educators can encourage and enable learners to use and develop their imaginations.

Through the conversation we are seeking to gain a better understanding of what using imagination means to participants in educational, work and other settings, and how they stimulate and cultivate their own imaginations and the imaginations of others.

From the perspective of educators, teachers, and professional developers, we seek imaginative examples of how they use and develop their own imaginations, how they engage learners and/or peers, and how they practice imaginative pedagogy.

Please join us on the #creativeHE platform

We are launching an online course to deepen the understanding of creativity as a teachable skill. Providing the tools and mindsets to launch your personal creativity crusade! Educators who want to become Creativity Crusaders! The Curiosita Creativity Creed

  • For decades, creativity has languished in the political and educational arenas. It occasionally survived in classrooms when highly creative students found mentors or like-minded teachers.
  • We empower teachers so they may bring back to teaching what has been missing with the overassessment and intense instructional focus on literacy and mathematical skills.
  • We empower parents so they may bring back to parenting what has often been “put on the back shelf” in our hectic 21st century, over-scheduled lifestyles
We want creativity to thrive in all “home rooms” and in all classrooms! And to that end, we are on a Creativity Crusade for every student, every teacher, every school . . . EVERY DAY!

Northwest Indiana begins its yearly celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Week April 13. What a week (and beyond) it will be as everyone is invited to “Create, Connect, Celebrate!” The Week’s celebration will benefit our entire communities.

On Tuesday, April 3, the La Porte County, Indiana, Commissioners issued a resolution, encouraging citizens to “recognize and use their own creativity in their homes, schools, workplaces, organizations, government, and communities.” The resolution noted last year’s United Nations’ historic designation of April 21 as a special day for the world to embrace innovation as a way to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals.

The regional celebration will start Friday, April 13, 8:00 a.m., with a kick-off breakfast sponsored by the Center for Creative Solutions, according to the committee chair, Bill Halliar. Featured speakers include O’Merrial Butchee, Director of the Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center (Ivy Tech), and Blair Milo, Indiana’s Secretary of Career Connections and Talent.

The Center will present the Tej Ram Gupta scholarships to three A. K. Smith Career Center students. The awards are made yearly in conjunction with Dr. Rakish and Bina Gupta and the B. R. Foundation of Michigan City.

Other area youth will be honored for innovative projects as well. Additionally, the Center for Creative Solutions will present the CREO! to an individual or organization for demonstrating extraordinary efforts to promote an innovative culture in Northwest Indiana.
